Trevor

Our volunteers help to shape and grow the work Dwell does and we couldn’t do it without their time and commitment. Trevor is one of our volunteers and he has worked with Dwell since his retirement at the end of 2012.  

Originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, Trevor moved to New Zealand as a child in 1956. His working life was spent mostly as head of a secondary English department, followed by a long period as an advisory officer for the secondary teachers’ union in their national office in Wellington.

Trevor always had a strong work ethic and this didn’t change upon retirement. Volunteering allows him to give something to the community in a way that fits in with other activities he enjoys, including a passion for classic TV shows such as Hill Street Blues and political satire like Veep, attending U3A lectures, playing table tennis, and catching up on books he hasn’t read.

He likes working for Dwell as he wanted to support a socially positive and community-driven organisation. He assists us with communications work, funding applications and has even interviewed tenants for this website. This continues a lifelong passion for words and language.

His expertise in communications and completing funding applications has led to the moniker ‘Fabulous Funding Maestro’. A highlight so far for Trevor was seeing the result of a funding application he completed which secured $5,000 for Dwell. The money came from an organisation we had previously applied to for funding but were unsuccessful, so we think he deserves his moniker!
