How do I apply for Dwell rental housing?

Q: Who is eligible to rent Dwell housing?

A: People in need or on a low income who are on the public housing register.

Q: How do I apply for Dwell Housing?

A: Dwell currently selects our tenants from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) public housing register when we have vacancies. This allows us to allocate our few housing vacancies to those most in need.

Q: How do I get on the MSD housing register?

A: If you think you are eligible for social housing, then apply to be on the MSD public housing register at Work and Income - ring 0800 559 009 or if you are over 65 ring 0800 552 002. You can find out more information on the Work and Income website.

Q: Where are Dwell's homes located?

A: We have homes in Berhampore, Brooklyn, Island Bay, Kilbirnie, Lower Hutt, Lyall Bay, Miramar, Newtown, Te Aro, Titahi Bay and Wadestown.

Q: How long does it take to get a Dwell home?

A: We cannot tell you if or when you may get offered a home with us. We have a limited number of homes, a low turnover of tenants and there is a lot of need for our homes. When a home becomes available, we seek applications through MSD from the public housing register that would be suitable for the available home.

Q: How do I apply for Dwell’s supportive housing?

A: Dwell’s supportive housing is shared housing for people with additional needs, primarily people living with a mental illness. Dwell takes applications for supportive housing directly, or through the housing facilitation service run by LinkPeople.

Q: I need accommodation in a hurry - can you help?

We don't provide emergency accommodation. If you require immediate assistance, please see the housing section for a list of emergency accommodation options in the Wellington Region.

Q: Who else could help?

A: Please see the housing section for a list of other housing providers.
